What is a Level Indicator?

A level indicator allows you to visually determine the level of the surface in a tank or inside a steam boiler. Although steam boilers are equipped with automated level monitoring with dry-heating protection, the law also requires a visual level display.

Selection of Level Indicator

We assist in selecting the level indicator that meets the requirements of the application. Below are four different models: glass tube indicator, reflective indicator, backlit indicator, and magnetic indicator.

In low-pressure tanks, it is most cost-effective to use a simple glass tube indicator.

If the pressures are higher, we recommend a robust reflective indicator.

In both of these models, the liquid level can be seen through the transparent measurement section in the indicator.

Glass tube, reflective, and backlit indicators are equipped with shut-off valves, with optional safety balls in case of glass breakage. Connections are flange or welded.

In a backlit level indicator, a light is added behind the indicator, making it easier to read the level.

In a magnetic level indicator, a float moves along with the level inside an acid-resistant/plastic tube. The magnet in the float rotates the slats on top of the level indicator. Insulated models and insulated with trace heating models are also available.

The advantage of the magnetic level indicator is its clear visual indication. The slats are either bright white or red, depending on the liquid level. With traditional level indicators, the glass tube becomes dirty over time and must be replaced as part of maintenance.

It is also easy to extract an electrical switch signal or mA signal to systems from the magnetic level indicator. ATEX-rated models are also available.
